Controlled steroids: what a manufacturer needs before importing
Androgens and some anabolic steroids are scheduled in many countries. Here is the paperwork buyers should expect to prepare.
Several steroid APIs, especially androgens and anabolic agents, are controlled substances. Rules differ by country, so always confirm requirements with your own regulator, but the same documents come up again and again.
What buyers are usually asked for
- A valid drug-manufacturing or import licence in the buyer’s name
- An import permit or no-objection certificate from the destination authority for each consignment
- Company registration details and a statement of intended use
- Quantity limits linked to your approved formulations
What suppliers must do
A responsible supplier verifies the buyer’s licence, matches the order to the permit, ships only the permitted quantity and keeps complete records. Orders that cannot be shown to be lawful are declined.
Plan for lead time
Permit processing can take weeks. Start the permit application before you place the purchase order, and share the permit number with your supplier early.
